give it a try

Love them or hate them, MGMT - straight out of Brooklyn - are my favorite listen these days. Formerly known as The Magangement, members Andrew and Ben attended college together at Wesleyan and had no intentions of starting a band. They were just a couple of friends who always chilled and showed each other their favorite music of the moment. This lead to them messing around with electronica and "noise rock" which now are a part of their signature sound. MGMT had been a favorite of mags like Spin and Rolling Stone back in 2007, who both named them "a band to watch".

Their first CD - Oracular Spectacular - was released this past October digitally, and again, in CD form in January. They are often compared to Muse - but I find them to be 2 very different bands. Prefix Mag has described MGMT music as "sounds like a college-dorm experiment gone horribly right" - pretty damn accurate.

My favorite track is "Electric Feel". Sounds so 90's it hurts. In my car the other day, after a couple Blue Moons and a plate o' nachos, I had Oracular Spectacular playing low beneath mine and Emily's conversation. However, when track 5, Kids, came on, Em's superpower ears recognized the song and turned it up after yelling "WHO IS THIS I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS SONG FOREVER!" Yes, you may enjoy it too if you give it a try.

I definitely recommend Electric Feel, their single Time to Pretend (featured in the movie 21), and Pieces of What.
