Why I am reading Breakfast with Buddha, by Roland Merullo

do i like? yes
am i finished? no

When Otto needs to go settle his deceased parents land in the midwest; his zany sister thinks its a lovely idea to send him on his way with a monk. Otto, not believing in much spirituality, has quite a trip on his hands. Traveling through the states he becomes a fan of this man that is so different than him in so many ways. He apprecitates life and beliefs that are contrasting to his own...something I think we can all learn from.

love is a mix tape

"But the rhythm of the mix tape is the rhythm of romance, the analog hum of a physical connection between two sloppy human bodies."

Rob Sheffield

Never will you appreciate a cassette tape as much as after this book. We are let in on a series of mix tapes from Scheffield's life and how closely related they are to his journies. We are intimately let into his marriage, and then further into the unexpected death of his wife. He clearly states how his life is lead by music, whether it be in a good way or a bad way. All music lovers, readers, and humans will like this book. Read it.

eat, pray, love

My most recent literary escapade....
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

After expressing a desire to dabble in this book to a dear friend, the book literally fell into my lap. Driving by him on a warm spring day, he tossed the book into my window and there it landed. On my lap.

Nothing makes you feel more full then Eat, Pray, Love. It is Gilberts story of traveling the world after a painful divorce, break up, and years of depression. She sets out to find solitude in herself through spending time in three different countries: Italy, India, and Indonesia. Relatable and real, funny and heart wrenching. You can't help but feel for her, and wonder if she has been sneeking a read in your own journal. I appreciate her vulnerability to the audience that she has invited into her life.

Italy will make you hungry, India will make you feel calm, and Indonesia will just make you feel fresh.

Highly recommended, please read.

let's read this!

This is not so much a book review, seeing as how I never even purchased the book. But, I did receive an e-mail about this book called A la Cart: The Secret Lives of Grocery Shoppers. It was just released this past Tuesday an is a really innovative concept. Author, Hillary Carlip, recovers peoples old shopping lists and imagines what these people must be like, solely based on the items on their list. She goes as far as dressing as them , having her make-up, hair, wardrobe -- everything done in order to transorm into this person who she believes was the one-time owner of this lost grocery list.. She then actually shops for these items, and her journey is photographed. All together, there are 26 portraits based off of lost grocery lists. You can purchase this book here:
